Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone

After a seriously busy week incorporating two separate industry audits and sundry meetings (and site walkthroughs) with Health and Safety consultants, I find that there's nothing more refreshing than giving your toenails a damn good trim.

Perhaps I have been unconsciously letting myself go in pedicure areas, in order to give me an edge of uncomfortable bile and venom so beneficial to getting through the week productively.

Or on the other hand, perhaps I've just been a bit lazy lately.

Yes, that's more likely.

Anyway, having to reconsider my entire conception of what makes effective drama after enduring two miserably banal and tedious seasons of "Mad Men" has probably been a good thing, as I am now enjoying Season Four of "The Avengers" immensely. (Mind you, almost anything would be an improvement on "Mad Men").

And it's all a question of tone, really. Teetering on the verge of silliness yet falling on the acceptable side of whimsy, there's still just enough menace and threat to make it properly function. And of course, being in gorgeous and lavish monochrome doesn't hurt, either.

All of which reminds me that I must get around to returning some of the faulty Avengers discs that Optimum have been churning out. The saga of the Season Five box has been particularly amusing, having had two attempts to correct all the flaws. (In a way, I wish I had held out for the inevitable Mega-Set that you have these days, containing all the corrected discs and a bonus disc of rather unexciting features. However, I do rather prefer the overall stylishness of the individual sets, even if the cases are a bit limp...)

And another thing that I continue to forget about is my ability to do screen-grabs, which is rather silly of me.

After all, we people of the planet Vega are a practical race of mining engineers....

Next episode: my attempts at trying to get through this year's moliminous cycle of forthcoming Bank Holidays with as little psychological damage as possible....
