"A Disused Yeti?"

Well, the rumours were largely true, and it still seems so much better than could have been hoped for.

 

Four of the five missing episodes of "The Web of Fear" and all five missing episodes of "The Enemy of the World", making that a grand total of seven complete Troughton stories in the archive.

 

It's quite something to see the once barren wasteland that was the Season Five archive holdings of my youth become increasingly populated. In fact, I'm still somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer size of the haul.

 

Watching the news reports rolling out after the midnight press embargo was lifted was an experience that I won't forget in a hurry, and I pre-ordered the inevitable DVD releases at an appropriately ridiculous early hour.

 

So, what with that and the almost immediate availability of the episodes on iTunes, why the hell are we still waiting to see "The Underwater Menace" Episode 2?

 

I'm sorry to keep going on about it, but I'm missing the days of rush-release onto VHS so badly...

With all the impending industry audits facing me in the next couple of weeks, you would suppose that my nominal lunch break would be spent preparing documents and generally getting all my paperwork up to date.

Instead, I am quietly experiencing mild annoyance at the continued lack of the recently recovered Doctor Who episodes in my life. It's been over four months since the news of the discovery was announced, after all.

And the fact that "The Underwater Menace" is such a veritable hat-fest is making the delay all the more galling.

As they never quite actually said on those grating "Points of View" voiceovers, "Come on BBC! Get a fucking move on!"...

It's an almost unspeakably wonderful thing when a missing episode of Proper Doctor Who is rediscovered, so it's bordering on sheer BLOODY HELL!! territory when two turn up at once....

So, Galaxy Four: Air Lock and The Underwater Menace: Episode 2. Your internet message boards have probably already collapsed under the weight of sheer ingratitude from so-called fans, but personally I'm over the bloody moon.

Who thought that a missing episode would lurk behind the doors of my advent calendar this year?

Hang on, that sounds like I have a pile of film prints with Serial EE written on them stashed away here in the Security Kitchen.

Which I don't, I hasten to add....
