No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.11

What with a graduation (not mine), a birthday (not mine) and a court appearance (not mine) in the space of a week, I'm a little bit tired.

And then there's Christmas to contend with. (Sorry, look forward to).

So, as a sequel of sorts to my mid-October feeling (as witnessed if you care to click here), let's have a look at how mid-December is looking for me right about now...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.10

Here in the Security Kitchen we are sad to hear the news of the passing of Kenny "I make the top go around, you know!" Baker, who (pardon the expression) loomed large over our childhoods with his work in one of the greatest films ever made.

But apart from his apperance in "Time Bandits", he is also sometimes remembered for his portrayal of a certain well-loved droid in yer Star Wars films.

Despite various flippant comments over the years, his talent and dedication will be greatly missed.

As the above hopefully demonstrates...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.9

I've been sat for the last few minutes trying to think of a suitable sarcastic caption for this one, and finding that I'm spoiled for choice on so many levels.

And then I remembered browsing the racks (no pun intended) of Forbidden Planet one day, and contemplating the naughty bedroom fun that could be had with the latest arrivals of yer modern day merchandise.

Yes, kinky sex just keeps getting kinkier...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.7

Sometimes when staying in hotels, I catch sight of myself in a bathroom mirror and realise just how old and fat I have become. Come to think of it, I wasn't in that much better shape when I was in my twenties, but I do have occasional bouts of getting a grip before things slide totally out of control.

Although this is not a photo of myself (no, honestly), I do celebrate the blatant lack of self-awareness that would lead to a display such as this. Considerations of my own physical limitations (and a noticeable over-abundance of bodily hair) have prevented any personal explorations into the realms of crossdressing, for example.

But that's another story for another time.

Until then, it's lots of brisk walks and easy on the Marmite crisps...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.6

It's audit season again at work, with three in about as many weeks. So what with those and a lot of other annoying stuff that's going on, there still isn't much joy settling in to the new premises.

And with a broken boiler at home, what better time to run away from all my responsibilities for a few nights and try to squeeze some of the fun out of London that I couldn't manage last time I was there (for obvious female reasons).

So let's celebrate this forthcoming brief respite (inclement weather permitting) by throwing caution to the wind and for once just living a little...

Maybe even like this...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.5

We scattered my father's ashes today, a few days short of the anniversary of his cremation.

I suppose we should have done it long before now, but every chance that presented itself seemed either too inappropriate or was cancelled at the last minute due to work.

It's an odd feeling, standing on a muddy track by a field with your father in a surprisingly heavy plastic urn, slowly unscrewing the lid and wondering what you'll find.

And despite the sheer amount of material to be disposed of, I hope I managed to scatter him with some kind of dignity, rather than just dumping him in the bottom of a hedgerow, which is what it felt like when he just wouldn't stop coming out of the damn tub.

Anyway, here's another cosplay entry to take my mind off things...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.4

It's with a grudging respect that I post these images. Rarely can the words "women" and "attention to detail" be combined in the same multiverse, but in this case I am more than happy to make an exception.

Of course, the greatest thing about this re-enactment is the bonus Tinkerbell in the bottom left, contributing some rather stunning cleavage which the original illustration lacked.

Could bonus cosplay fairy cleavage become a pre-requisite for... well, pretty much anything you may care to mention? Once I get over my current obsession with transvestites, I'll let you know...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.3

I've admired this picture for some months, since I initially discovered it while looking for cosplay themed pornography one night.

Not that I spend all that much time intoxicated and trawling the depths of the Internet for unusual pornographic images of people dressed as fantasy characters, of course.

No, being in a steady relationship for almost ten years doesn't make you want to do that at all.

No, of course not...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.2

This, apparantly, is some kind of My Little Pony cosplay thing.

I know what it looks like to me, and I'm far too polite to pass comment...

No Sir, There's Nothing Strange About Cosplay No.1

I might as well be honest about this from the start.

If you don't cherish extremely mild pornographic pictures of people dressed up as fantasy characters, or pictures of extremely fat people dressed up as fantasy characters, then this thread probably won't do much for you.

But a Leia versus Uhura bitch fight? Come on, people. What's not to enjoy?

"I Would Like a Hat Like That!" No.23 - Cosplay Special

A brief respite in the midst of the Disappointing Family Holiday, and contrary to possible expectation, I have eschewed a Scottish theme for this entry.

As a prelude to a potentially regular column that I haven't thought of a name for yet, my thoughts have been lately turning to a perusal of what is known today as "cosplay".

Cosplay appears on initial inspection to be largely an American phenomenon, but dressing up in outlandish costumes you just can't quite carry off has been common practice on British soil for as long as I care to remember.

Whilst many have derided it as an embarrassing and childish subculture among snobbish Doctor Who fandom, I have always found the prospect of idiots in fancy dress parading about at conventions to be part of the rich tapestry of being a fan of what was (in my day) merely a tatty old kid's programme.

Anyway, it's all viewed as normal and healthy behaviour now, and as the series has become more sophisticated and "modern", then so have our costumed buddies.

For example, just witness this amazing hat...

And let's face it. Any hobby that allows you to download endless pictures of large-breasted women dressed up as Red Sonja and Power Girl must surely be a positive thing...
