Despite being pitched at a slightly different audience, Blake's 7 has been traditionally viewed as a somewhat poor relation when compared to your Proper Doctor Who.
Maybe such comparisons should not be made, but being a sci-fi show born of the late 1970's (when Doctor Who was probably at the peak of its popularity in the UK) and sharing many cast and production members, it's difficult not to view Terry Nation's "Dirty Dozen In Space" in a cultural vacuum.
But whatever their comparative merits, both series managed to attain their goal of Allegedly Embarrassing Pantomime Monster within a few years of each other. Obviously Doctor Who has more contenders due to its longevity, so who won the race depends basically on whether you favour Erato or the Myrka as your whipping-monster of choice.
(Naturally I don't have a problem with either, so for me all this is merely academic).
I generally find the "so-bad-it's-good" mentality fairly distasteful, but Season Three of B7 is a law unto itself and does not conform to any known Security Kitchen protocols. This is particularly true of "The Harvest of Kairos", and it's incredible whaaaaaaaat?? factor.
Needless to say, I am looking forward to the intended B7 marathon scheduled for the latter part of this year.
Just don't let me radically reassess "Sarcophagus".
Some things are just meant to be left well alone...
