25 Wonderful Things No.2

Two days into December, and dark forces of a female domestic nature are already aligning themselves for the annual round of inexplicable birthday and festive fights.

Tiresome days ahead.

Anyway, one of the constant pleasures about visiting York via the Grimston Bar Park & Ride service, is riding past the Stonebow and waiting for the predictable derogatory comment from a fellow passenger.

Personally, I applaud the vision and sheer optimism of the planners who thought that a city such as York would ever be ready for such a modest yet magnificent building slap bang in its commercial heart.

Now, I could have posted any number of photos which celebrated my love of Brutalist architecture and concrete in general (especially ones of the Roger Stevens Building on Leeds University Campus, for obvious reasons), but the Stonebow is one of my earliest experiences of a sadly misunderstood vision of a better future.

Now if I wasn't so pressed for time, there's a multistory carpark in Hull that I could really go into raptures over....
