Many column inches have been written in recent years concerning today's Wonderful Thing, and once again I feel reluctant to add to the body of learned opinion easily available elsewhere.
However, I can always make an exception when it comes to Doctor Who...

Shall I skip the usual analysis of how Target novelisations were the only way to experience past Doctor Who stories before VHS, satellite repeats, DVD, i-Tunes, and the rest of the we-didn't-have-any-of-that-fancy-sort-of-stuff-in-my-day technology that yer kids of today currently enjoy?
Yes, and I shall merely remark that through the Target books I owe a huge debt of gratitude to a man I have never met. A man whose work encouraged an already voracious childhood reader to read even more. A man who understood the Reithian nature of children's books and who made a desire for knowledge tempered by humility the most natural thing in the world.
Terrance Dicks, thank you for so many good things.
