25 Wonderful Things No.22

In my world, most types of alcohol have eidetic associations attached to them. Having lived a life of one form of synesthesia or another, this is hardly surprising...

Thursday 22nd December

It is perhaps ironic that the spirit that was once referred to as "Mother's Ruin" was first given to me by my own mother. I suppose it was intended to be a bit of a laugh, watching a child gag on gin and tonic in the middle of a crowded flight to Majorca, like the time one of my father's acquaintances thought it would be a hoot to feed Scotch to a six year old.

I probably disappointed my audience by actually liking the gin, as it seemed like the most natural taste in the world. (And still does, dammit).

But apart from that, gin remains unique possibly by sheer ubiquity. So much has been enjoyed and consumed over the years, that it doesn't resonate with any particular period of my life.

Cheers!
