Escape To Danger No.6

When originally contemplating these articles, I realised quite quickly that I'd be struggling to find more than a handful of photos for certain entries. ("The Faceless Ones" and "Mission To the Unknown" won't be taking up many column inches, for example).

Indeed, highlighting the gulf between the perceived scarcity of printed material in the 1980s and the post-cancellation glut is pretty much the point of it all.

But there are proving to be more than a mere few stories that were not as well served for photos as I had previously thought.

Or remembered, anyway.

Probably the most common shot from "The Romans" that one, and Hartnell in particular looks like he's having a ball. As he does in the one below, too.

And then we start struggling, to be honest. Bearing in mind that the Emperor Nero is one of the main characters in Serial M, I cannot recollect seeing a single photo of him in relation to the story until relatively recent times. Which was odd, since Derek Francis was hardly an unknown.

Instead, we tended to get a rare (as it was then) chance to view the empty sets, minus any fripperies and distractions such as mere actors.

And to make matters more peculiar, the photo I've chosen as the uber-pic of the serial was very often cut in half, showing either Vicki and Doctor with lyre, or Doctor with lyre and Roman.

Sorry, Maximus Pettulian with lyre...
