Escape To Danger No.7 - Eclipse Special

This entry was initially a bit of a rushed job, as I was in the process of cobbling it together when the eclipse was actually occurring the other week. But since there is probably enough compromising material on my internet usage while at work without adding more to it, I decided to leave it for a while.

And then promptly forgot about it.

Yes, pardon my stating the obvious, but not doing "The Aztecs" at the time of a solar eclipse would be squandering a Yetaxa-sent opportunity. (And there are some great hats, which gives me an idea for my next post...)

I used to be rather dismissive of this story, which was incredibly foolish of me, because it's so much more than it's individual parts initially appear. John Ringham is alarmingly good in the Bad-Unenlightened-Priest role, and his Richard III style performance is also a tenuous link to current events in Leicester.

Anyway, that's enough of that. Nice shot of Jacqueline Hill there. In a hat.

That was always a popular action shot, and I've always found something oddly exciting about combat using jewelled clubs.

Tlotoxl obviously concurs.

Meanwhile, another great feature of Serial F is that the story is almost what is referred to today as being "Doctor-Lite". But rather than simply not being around much, he is given a rather charming romantic sub-plot to untangle while Ian and Barbara share the limelight.

But Hartnell does have plenty of opportunities to show off his Rehearsal Jumper. Obviously not as flash as Pertwee's Rehearsal Trousers, but this was the Sixties, after all.

But being a BBC historical drama, the sets and costumes are probably the real stars of the show.

And allowing Jacqueline Hill such a powerful performance surely doesn't hurt either.
